The Paper Cabana, A New Challenge Blog!

Standard

The Paper Cabana

Now that my daughter is heading back to school, I decided I needed something to do with myself!  Last year, I wasn’t really an empty nester because I was so busy taking care of my dad, who passed away the end of January.  But this year, my nest will truly be empty, just me, Stella and Lucy at home for 12 hours each day.  If you are a frequent visitor to my blog, you know how much I love a good challenge and my new Silhouette Cameo has reignited my love for electronic cutters.  So I have decided to combine these two loves and start a weekly challenge blog for electronic cutters!  The first challenge will begin on Wednesday, September 5th at 9:00am.  You can do a card, a layout or any other project, as long as it has at least one SVG cut.  The prize for the first challenge is a $10 Download Card for the Silhouette Online Store!  I am also looking for a few guest designers for the first challenge, if anyone is interested, please email me at thepapercabana@gmail.com.

This is another layout for my Summer Scrapbook class.  I designed this layout for a class in 2009, but my dad got sick and the class got cancelled.  The base is Sahara Sand with So Saffron and Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper in the background.  The photo mats are  Brocade Blue.  The title was cut with the Cricut, as were the Palm Trees and beach pail.  The flip flops and beach ball were stamped in So Saffron and Certainly Celery.

This is a layout I made for my Summer Scrapbooking class.  You can have “Wii” spelled “We” as an option.  I used Old Olive Textured Cardstock for the base, Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper for the background and Brilliant Blue for the photo mats.  The titles were cut with the Cricut in Old Olive and Chocolate Chip for the shadow.  The Wii controller was also cut with the Cricut using a cut file made with George and Basic Shapes.

Here is a layout I made for today’s Free for All Challenge F4A121 Red, White & Blue. Confession, all the elements were cut for this layout. I was going to do a class with this layout 3 years ago, but my dad got sick and I never did the class. I sold the original sample, but I had another kit ready to be assembled. When I saw this challenge, I dug out the kit and finally put it together!  The title was cut with the Cricut and Uncle Sam was made with Stampin’ Up! punches.  I think the stars are a Sizzix die, been so long I can’t remember!

No Hands Challenge, Scenic Seahorse

Standard

The Free for All Challenge on Splitcoaststampers today is F4A120… Hands Free Cutting.  I used the Cricut Cartridge Life’s a Beach to cut my card elements.  The Seahorse base is Certainly Celery and the layer is Apricot Appeal.  I used Pear Pizzazz and Creamy Caramel markers for the accenting and then sponged with Distress Inks in Walnut and Vintage Photo.  The seaweed was cut in Certainly Celery, Kiwi Kiss, Gable Green, Garden Green and a misc green scrap, all sponged with Vintage Photo.  The coral is Cameo Coral and Ruby Red sponged with Brick Red Distress Ink.  I cut the title in white and sponged with Bermuda Bay.  I used a strip of Kraft for the sand and stamped with a Dunes stamp in Creamy Caramel.  I cut the contour of the dunes and sponged with Vintage Photo.  The Background is a scrap from a paper pack, a near dead ringer for Cool Caribbean.  The card base is 5.5 x 5.5 in Bermuda Bay.
