Rose River made with Stampscapes Babbling Brook

This weekend was Virtual Stamp Night on Splitcoaststampers, what fun!   This time around, I wasn’t able to complete all the challenges, but I got quite a few done.  I will be posting some of the cards I did, but for now you can see them on my VSN Gallery page.  There were 5 challenges posted on Friday night and I finished them all, but I did combine 2, Getting There and Journey Through the Ages.  I used the VW Bug from Stampin’ Up! Groovy for my transportation and to depict my time period.  The last challenge of the night was ~ Landmarks and Locations, make a card or project using Landmarks and Locations as your inspiration.  I chose Shenandoah National Park for my inspiration, more specifically, the Rose River Trail, one of our favorite hikes.  The Rose River Trail is a 4 mile moderate circuit hike on a shady trail that follows the Rose River, really a stream, and features several cascades and a waterfall.  This is a picture I took of the cascades on our last visit in  July, 2009.  It is easy to see why I chose this as my inspiration!

For my card, I used the Stampscapes Babbling Brook.  This was my first time using a Stampscapes stamp and it was fun.  I didn’t have time to do a whole scene, so I just used the stamp as is.  I stamped the image in Momento Black on Ranger Glossy Cardstock.  It is amazing how vibrant the colors are on this cardstock!  I started my coloring by sponging the water with Pool Party and the upper part with Soft Sky.  I continued layering color, heat setting the colors in between.  I sponged with Baja Blue, Tempting Turquoise, Island Indigo and Night of Navy, moving outward with the darker colors, adding a little bit of Yo Yo Yellow in the lighter areas.  I used Close to Cocoa and Vintage Photo Distress Ink to color the rocks.  I added the finishing touches with Taken with Teal and Close to Cocoa markers, then lightly sprayed with a sealer before adding the accents with a White Signo Gel Pen.   I matted in Basic Black and Taken with Teal and mounted on a Taken with Teal card base.  I am really looking forward to using my other Stampscapes stamps now!
